Last minute card crisis (AVERTED!)

Post by pamcook »

I had everything ready to make a mermaid theme birthday card for Mia. We had a skype chat today when she said she was sure her mama would get get a Harry Potter theme cake "because I'm all about Harry Potter". Yikes.

I have precious little Harry Potter stuff. Was thinking it would be fun to make one of those cards where the butterfly flies out when you open it but make a golden snitch instead of a butterfly. Does anyone have a link to how those are made? (The butterfly cards) ETA - ugh. Not sure I could make it after all.

Any thoughts about where to find Harry Potter ephemera?

Why couldn't she be all about mermaids for a few more weeks?

Any other card templates that sound like they'd work?

What if you did something with an owl and said it was Hedwig? Or if you have any stamps of a kid with a scarf, color the scarf the colors of her favorite house?

Lucyg has enabled me to buy some cute "Harry Potter" stamps from Sweet Stamp Shoppe.

They call them "magical" stamps, of course. No reference to Hogwarts.

By the way, thanks for reminding me of them. I bought them specifically to make a birthday card for my friend whose birthday occurs in 13 days. I better get busy.

Can't help you with any Harry Potter ideas, but here's a YT video showing those butterfly surprise cards:

I think it's more involved than I could do. Brainstorming...

Download some line drawings of HP things. There should be lots of them online. I'll take a quick look to see if I can find you some links.

I checked in with Cara this morning. She said Mia's comment about being all about Harry Potter was an inside joke. She had hacked her mama's phone and saw all the HP birthday cakes Cara had saved on her phone. She really wants a multi-color cake (similar to our lovely new page header in our forum!). Whew. I can still do the mermaid card.

Wow good thing! Now be sure to post your mermaid card for us to see, I know it will be fabulous. I'm often late to the party but I'm just now getting interested in mermaid/sea things.

And speaking of mermaids, I've been in the market for a merstamp and came across this one after watching my favorite, Vicki P (can't spell her name though I think I finally can pronounce it) doing a video with of all things a Laurel Burch mermaid stamp. I think this may be the one for me.

If you're interested, Vicki's video using it in an art journal. LOVE how she did it and the background is really clever. May need that Tim stencil also.

I wondered if you did.

I still love the Laurel Burch graphic but whimsical style.

I always enjoy watching Vicki P's art journal videos; this one was certainly a departure for her. I have a Laurel Burch purse; who knew she made stamps? Never seen them for sale here. I would like that Tim stencil also.
