Retirement Card
Retirement Card
My brother-in-law, after 40 years of flying, has retired from being a pilot and captain with United Airlines. Monday was his last flight with many of his children and wife joining him for a run from Denver to Chicago and back. The last 20+ years he was based out of Denver.
So of course I needed to make a special card. Bob suggested a runway and from there I ran with it. I found the jet and runway image googling online and was able to download them, turn them into SVG files and the KNK came through for me. Then made the little mechanism to make the jet pop up. I cut the plane 3 times out of Bristol card stock and glued the 3 together so it won’t get too beat up. The background is of course blended Oxides.
The cover is a photo I found of Denver International Airport. On the back is where we wrote our message. Now to safely pack it for mailing...in a box.

Farley, this is fabulous! I love your jet and runway - and gotta say I'm a little jealous of your mad KNK skillz.

Thanks everyone! It’s fun once in awhile to really get buried in one special card.
Keitha, it really isn’t all that hard with the KNK or Silhouette or any cutter that can operate with a great software package and the ability to use SVG files. Even though the jet and runway weren’t SVGs, I am able to save them as such. Then it was just a matter of sizing the runway to fit the card. I didn’t have to do anything to the jet’s size. Now that I’ve done this at some point I want to make a train version for my brother’s birthday in September. I’ll need that much time to find just the right images.
