Art class suggestions?

Post by pamcook »

Cara pulled out Mia's sketchbook and found these. She said she would love to have some art classes. She has been going on YouTube (which is where she learned to do these drawings). In August, she'll have her 10th birthday so I'd like to pay for an online art class.
Any suggestions?

Actually, there are free online classes on the Strathmore site - strathmoreartist.com. There are also free downloads of the Andrew Loomis books available - just do a search for them. His books were how I learned to draw figures. They were originally published in the 40s and 50s, so the hair and clothing will look a bit dated, but what she needs to learn is the "how to," not the style.

These art classes for kids look interesting: http://www.thriveart.com/art-classes-for-kids. You can probably find others online that are geared to that age group.

Another suggestion, depending on where she lives/her schedule: send her to an art camp for a week when school's out. Online classes are great, but you're not getting the immediate feedback that you'd get in an in-person class. Plus, the onus is on her to log in and do the lessons, unlike if she's going to camp every day. Just depends on the kid, of course. My grandson went to an art day camp when he was 10 and really enjoyed it.

Thanks Ladies!
Cara is investigating local classes so maybe I could pitch in or buy her new supplies.
I'll check these out.
