Solar eclipse

Post by pamcook »

I could probably google this but I might be trying to generate some conversation here...

Does anyone have any tips for taking pictures of the eclipse? I bought some of the solar eclipse glasses. So I envision being able to wear them and just use my camera as normal? Anyone?

So, I was wrong. Apparently you can't use your camera as normal to take pictures of the eclipse. Now I plan to take pictures of my surroundings and print some online photos of the actual eclipse.

Anyone else have plans?

I'll confess I wasn't even aware that was coming up. Up here we'll just get a partial eclipse; I'll be working but will try and pop outside to experience it at some point. Look forward to seeing how you record it, Pam.

Are you in just the right spot to see it Pam?

When we drove through Oregon many places had some signs that they were have Eclipse Parties and such since part of the state is prime viewing.

My Mom was planning to drive down to Somerset, Ky, to view it until she read they were expecting 100,000 people converging on that town. Yikes.

I guess there are a lot of eclipse geeks/followers.

Speaking of looking at the sun, in the last couple weeks I've noticed a super sensitivity to sunlight. Whenever I go outside for a moment without sunglasses, I really feel like I have a imprint on my eyeballs. And this isn't looking AT the sun. Just being out in our 108 degree heat. Does this sound weird? Have any of you have a similar problem? I guess you're going to tell me I should see a doctor. I wonder if it's the bad food I eat. My Dad always told me to eat carrots for my eyes.

Have you had cataract surgery? That makes the world amazingly bright. I have to wear sunglasses on bright clouded days now.

Jennifer, Joel and I talk about how intense sunlight is now. I think we have less air polution. Joel thinks it's all the metals in our atmosphere from all the cloud-seeding that happens in our area. It's probably a combination of many things I don't want to even know about! 8-)

Western NC is the primo-spot around here but it's supposed to be crazy-busy with people driving in to see it. I think it's supposed to be 97% here - I think that's close enough for me.

I believe our area here in Myrtle is supposed to be able to see it well. I haven't done anything about getting the glasses yet. The medical center near here was giving them away but I think I'm too late.

I just ordered some glasses too. And I'm off Mondays now. Yay!!

Maybe we can use the lens of the glasses over the camera lens too. You can look directly at it once it's fully eclipsed so I'll try then too.

Looks like Sacramento only gets a partial eclipse. But I'll be looking for it. While staying indoors. I think it gets darker in the house, right? 10:17 AM for us.

I got my cool solar eclipse glasses today. They have the same frame as 3D glasses... but wow these lenses are totally black.... can't wait to see what kind of view I get when I look at the sun... but I'll definitely get photos of Mike and me wearing them.... and add them to the scrapbook page, too.... I'm excited I'm off on Mondays, now... so I'll be able to go watch it somewhere.

We will be traveling to Corvallis to stay with our son that week end. It will be in totality there and they are expecting to quadruple in population that day. The hotels there have been sold out for a year. We're planning to get there Saturday, lay in supplies and not take the car anywhere on Monday. Could be a nightmare for this small college town. I've been collecting quilt blocks for the 2017 Row by Row challenge and many of the quilt shops in the area are incorporating an eclipse into their blocks. We seem to eclipse fever here.

I have the Agency kick-off that day so I'll be stuck inside listening to boring "Rah rah us" talks. They should give me the day off since I'm leaving two weeks later.

The daughter of a friend in Washington state is getting married that day - an outdoor wedding. (Who in heck has a wedding on a Monday????) It should be a memorable wedding if only for that reason.

I just ordered t-shirts for Mike and me... I've probably just sealed my fate for hurricane season for doing something like that. So... here's to hoping I'll be watching an eclipse and not dealing with a named storm. But... it IS going to be August... sigh

either way... we'll have cool t-shirts!! LOL
