Die-cuts, Recycling

Post by katymjo »

I had quite a pile of Birthday and Christmas cards that we had received recently, and wondered what to do with them. Remembering how I'd used the TH Wildflower dies on Distress-inked watercolour paper, I thought I'd try using them on the cards. The top photo shows what I got from cards with Winter scenes and the second is from splashy-coloured birthday cards. You'd never guess what they started out as!
Kathryn.

What a great way to recycle those cards, these are lovely. May I ask what dies you used in the top photo?

The dies in the top photo are from another TH set. I think they are called Winter Evergreen. There are four dies, one is Holly, which has been very useful recently!
I am hoping to use these on layouts with landscape photos. It is sometimes hard to find the right shades for leaves or dead grass.

Thanks Kathryn. These will be a good addition to landscape layouts.

I think that is terrific! You can always you them on new cards you are making also. Great way for recycling.

Taking Kathryn’s clever recycling idea I was thinking that you could do the same with some of the heavier brochures that come in the mail. I’ve used some to make paper beads with and now here’s another way to use some of that nice paper.

I don't get many cards except at Christmas so I'll be checking the recycling bin for nice heavy weight advertising to diecut! Calenders are good to cut up or use for journal pages because they are a good weight paper. And, of course, after diecutting it could be inked, sprayed or painted whatever color you want.

Hmmm. I have a bunch of old calendars that I could use. Thanks for the idea.

Wonderful idea! You're so right about getting a nice mottled tone for leaves and wildflowers.

Peggy and I have also used duplicate photos or leftover photos to punch shapes from ... back when we both used punches more

It works really well and keeps the objects color-matched to your layouts, too!!
