Bloom where you are planted...journal play

Post by Ruth Ann Landry »

This phrase has always been special to me. In 1982, I lost quadruplet babies (identical triplet boys and a girl) at 5 1/2 months. I cross stitched this for my ob/gyn who I thought the world of....yesterday, i saw on FB that that Altered Arts mag was doing an "all call" for Mailbox Muse with this theme and it made me remember it. I did some looking around and found this idea and loved it....I had a hard time choosing between this one and another one I saw, but may do that one next.

Today we will be doodling...this is a huge challenge for me as I have a hard time doodling unless i am on the phone for a long time...i just can't let go and let it flow...i think it out too much...

The flowers we create for the page will be doodled circles (mine are 2in...may add another size when I get going...the object is to doodle in the circles with sharpies or any relatively water resistant pens of various sizes. About 4-5 circles will be used, so you can do several more and choose which ones you like best in the end. Will photo in a bit.......

here are the circles (don't laugh) and i used water color pencils and my water brush to color....I won't use all these, but wanted extras to choose from.

won't laugh either--I live with Shai. My doodles look like kindergarten work compared to hers

Those are cool! No laughing from here either. I can't even make believable stick figures. And when we did zentangles at CS retreat in 2008, it actually stressed me out.

I think your doodles look fantastic.

1. pick and place the flowers you will use and adhere....i also roughed up the edges a bit and cut and curled the starburst one a bit...

2. using a water proof marker, add stems and some doodles around the flowers.

3.then lightly scribble around the image with water color crayons and brush with water.

1. I added the title
2. I added some rub-on birds...wanted bugs, didn't have any
3. I added some journal lines.

I think I still need to play around with the background some...will think about it.

If you decide to play, have fun!

Here's the final version. I just got some new water soluble wax pastels (Reeves) and wanted to try them out. I love the colors and the effect the give dry or wet.
