June Use It Challenge

Post by pbp908 »

I've become addicted to the Rediscover Your Stash series on youtube, so I thought I'd start a new challenge series to hopefully inspire us to use our stash.

We all have washi tape. Lots and lots of it. Did you know it has a shelf life? I recently learned this (thank you Shimelle!) and thought it would be a good first challenge. The LO I chose for inspiration is a simple one but hopefully will give you a good jumping off point. Come up with your own ways to use it and inspire the rest of us!

Good subject for a series Pam, and great first challenge. Your layout is fabulous; love the B&W photo against all that colour.

This is fabulous! Love the b&w photo on the fun colors!

What is the shelf life of washi tape? Mine is probably "expired"

That's a great inspiration layout.

My washi is still in good shape but it stays far away from the furnace vent. Maybe we need to do another washi swap? I tend to buy it in smaller strips now (instead of the rolls). That stuff goes on and on and on.

Pam - thanks for this new idea!

Nancy - Check your rolls. When they're old the adhesive starts sticking to the design side badly - sort of like it melted on. I had a roll that now resides in File 13 - thankfully not one I cared about.

Pam your LO truly got an audible gasp out of me. This is a terrific LO and I'll look into the link you gave us. (Now I know where your suggestion to use washi with cut files came from:).

Pam C - I just used a piece of washi from our last swap this morning. I'll post the layout when it's done.
Pam P - sometimes if you take off some of the beginning of the roll where the adhesive is sticking to the design side you can get to some fresher stuff; at least that's worked for me a time or two.

Sorry, it's not my LO. Mine is still to come. I did notice that the example used CS paper for the background, though. Hard to miss that texture.

Keitha, if they're shot the problem is all the way through. Washi lasts for several years and then, depending on the manufacturer, it can go icky on you. Just like an old roll of duct tape. I have TH tape that I've had forever and it's still good. The one I trashed was only about 2 years old.

Posting this here for the washi tapes - one of which I received in our swap awhile ago - although it also qualifies as a summer layout: summer to me includes visits to amusement parks. I thoroughly enjoyed pulling out this older October Afternoon collection - anytime you can use a diecut that says "the world's strongest man" is a win in my book! The banner was sew easy (pun intended); per the instructions on the package I stitched it before removing the die-cuts from the rest of the sheet, and ended up with them evenly spaced.

Wonderful idea for challenges, Pam, and the layouts are really fun. I haven't had that washi tape problem-yet! Some of mine has lost its sticky back so I've had to use glue to hold them down but that's the only problem.

Since it was my idea, I thought I'd better make a LO. If I ever learn to use my cutter, I won't have to use the X-acto for cutting large items.

This is Zeus. He comes over to visit regularly. Zeus came to live with TJ the morning after Rocky died. It took us all a while to love him as much as Rock Star, but he's got our hearts now.
