Scrapbooking Challenge January 2013--WINNER
Re: Scrapbooking Challenge January 2013
Love it, Monica!
On a happy note, Bonnie came home and I picked up more doilies. The cat is still on the hook for the first set.

Paula, that Santa looks very familiar. Love your take on the sketch!
Monica, I really like your interpretation. I've been looking at mine and thinking it is bottom heavy. Your solution turned out great!

Monica, very pretty.
Last night the waiter placed a doily on the table. Out of six people at the the table, he only put one and it was at my spot. Immediately went in my purse!

Here's the layout I made this weekend at the crop - ofcourse I forgot doilies.
But I used some doily paper in the upper right corner!

Looks great, Nancy! I love traditional Christmas colors in a layout.

Re: Scrapbooking Challenge January 2013
I really like the little circles you used instead of the big doilies. Great idea!
Re: Scrapbooking Challenge January 2013
I tried to use the doilies and the flowers - I really did. I moved them, changed the colors, did away with them all and started over again. They just took too much emphasis away from the photo. This is why I really don't like using page maps, especially for challenges - I feel too restricted by them and my mind just doesn't work in a way that allows me to adapt them to my style. I finally gave up and kept the elements that I really liked and said to heck with the rest of it.
These wonderful ladies are the two women in my life that I loved the most - my Aunt Betty on the left and my mother, Madeline (Maddie is her namesake), on the right. I think this was taken about 6 months before Mom died.

Great page, Pam! You know, I look at a sketch as a starting point: sometimes I stay fairly true to it, and sometimes the end result isn't anything like the original sketch! The important thing is to make it your own.

I agree with Monica. Love the layout, with or without the flowers! You always need to make it your own, or you will never like the finished product

Fabulous layout!
I can see you in both your aunt & your mama.
