Metallic Watercolor Cards

Post by paddlegal »

I recently invested a whole $4.50 in a 16 color Yasutomo metallic watercolor pan paints. I was dubious but I'm happy to say the colors are quite vibrant and so fun to play with. These cards were all stamped with Delicata Golden Glitz pigment ink and then embossed with Ranger's Queen's Gold embossing powder. The black paper is cheap "heavy" card stock from Hobby Lobby and worked great with the water.

Now if you're like me, you may also have a "few" of the Twinkling H2o pots lying about. That would work also and I'll revive them for some comparisons. But the portability of the pan paints is great.

Haven't they turned out well! The gold looks stunning with the black card, but the dragonfly is my favourite.

They're so pretty!
Eva was doing a similar technique at the beach. I wondered how the colors would work on anything but black - you've shown it does work well.

Those are really beautiful. Lumiere paints would probably work for that technique, too, since I don't have metallic watercolors. It's interesting how embossing and coloring it in is making a comeback.

Thank you everyone!

Kathryn, I embossed the dragonfly on watercolor paper and then stained the white space around the dragonfly with Distress Ink.

Beautiful. I wonder if I have those. I have something like that. Bought at the Crocker. But not sure of the brand.

Thanks.

I bet they are the same ones. I see that set everywhere. Very inexpensive and work great.

These are so pretty Farley. I have several H2Os. You motivated me to go get them out.

Thank you all!

Trixie do get them out and post here what you make. I'd love to see what you do with them. I need to pull my stash of Twinks out and try them for comparison.

Marianne's comment about embossing/colouring in making a comeback also makes me think of those Peel-Offs, if anyone still has those in their stash. They would also work for this technique.
