Pam P - a tutorial, please? TUTORIAL POSTED

Post by pamcook »

Pam, I've tried the embossed edging you did on the banner ATC - mine look horrible. Every. single. time.
Would you mind posting a tutorial on how you're able to get such an amazing result?
Please?

It's really really hard, so you might want to print the directions.

Dredge the edges along a Perfect Medium pad or drag them through an embossing pad. Try to not be neat. Do it several times if you like.

Sprinkle gold UTEE over it. Or the fine gold stuff. Doesn't matter, but I like saying UTEE.

Thump gently to get rid of the excess. Or rub it off with your finger. Or leave it on. Doesn't matter.

Heat it until it melts or you're screaming in agony because you burned your fingers.

Told you it was difficult.

I always get a hard edge. Yours is kinda perfect. Maybe I need to practice flicking?

Or mushing your edges down in the pad. The embossing pad is better for that than the Perfect Medium pad. I sort of mush and drag, and if it doesn't look like enough I do it again. If I can ever get Adam to help me I'll have him take pictures.

Well, I got out all of the supplies but of course both of the camera batteries are dead.

A few things that I do remember doing. The embossing pad felt a little dry to me, so I added a ton of refill to it so it was good and sloppy. Also, I used watercolor paper, which seems to be more porous than regular card stock.

I'll do it tomorrow and take photos as I go. Maybe that'll help, but I think the most important thing is to be very casual with it. Almost unconcerned and slovenly.

I knew I was going to regret not doing the swap part of the banner challenge. Slovenly, casual, unconcerned, amazing, burned fingers, I'm sorry I missed it all. Can't wait to see the banner!

Oh, and I forgot, mushing the edges. But I think that's what I'm doing on a lot of things lately....

I can visualize mushing and that's the part I miss when I do mine.
Sometimes it's the "easy" techniques that I have the most difficult time with!

Part 1.

Got all of the supplies together - heat gun, watercolor paper, UTEE, embossing pad and refill. I have an ancient Stamping Up pad and refill that I'll probably use until they quit making the stuff. It has a bluish tint, so it works well for the photos.

After dredging and mushing, I sprinkled on a generous heap of UTEE.

If you don't think flicking gets enough off, use your finger or a brush to remove more. I now have blue fingers.

Heat the thing and heat it some more and yelp when your fingers get hot. Maybe I should have washed the embossing ink off first???

Better color, but out of focus. Geez, you'd think I'd put my darned glasses on.

And that's all there is to it. Aren't you glad I didn't video it? Can you imagine the :censor: words when it got HOT???
