Messy Medium Jar Tip

Post by mpizzazz »

Here is a little tip about those messy jars of gel medium. Mine always built up a thick layer of dried medium around the edges where I would wipe the brush. But when I opened the last jar I bought, I pulled the foil seal back half way and folded it under so I could use that edge to wipe my brush against and not the rim of the jar. It worked great for about half the jar and then needed replacing.
I took a piece of rigid but thin plastic from a discarded pen holder and cut it into a semi circle. I glued it on to the jar edge with the Ultimate Glue. The jar lid still closes tightly over it. I have a new edge to wipe my brush on for the rest of the jar.

yes, and please, admire the nice clean rim. Usually by the time I get down to the bottom of the jar, I can barely get the brush down through all the gunk cemented around the rim.

Wonderful idea. I fight with mine trying to get it open at times.

I'm going to confess - I usually apply my gel medium with my fingers. This is a great idea and will work well to clean off most of the medium before I go wash my hands!

Yeah, forgot to mention that. The jar lid was always stuck before but not now. Even using your fingers, Pam, this would be a good way to wipe off the excess. Maybe curving the shape of the plastic instead of straight across would be better for fingers.

What a great idea - and I think it would help even on things in the frig :)

Great idea, my lid gets stuck too. I'm like Pam and usually use my fingers, but think I'll try this tip to keep lid from sticking.
