Dry Embossing with Diecuts

Someone on All Things Tim posted this idea of using a Cuttlebug to dry emboss diecut shapes on paper. Hers looked great, mine not so much! She gave no info about the sandwich of paper, shims, etc. but did say that two layers of grungeboard might be better than one. I have been trying last night and this morning to do it. The big thing I learned was that corrugated cardboard does not work as a shim. It leaves the imprint of the ridges on your paper.
Has anyone else tried this?

These were done on right with thin chipboard swirl, 3 layers of diecut Club Scrap paper glued together for the umbrella man, and on left, normal thickness chipboard leaves which looks the best.

i have done that a long time ago but it was with alphabet letters.

Nice, if you can get it to work, it's not easy! I'll have a look on youtube, maybe there is help there.

I was just thinking - isn't there a rubbery embossing shim thingy? I wonder if she used something like that? (I'm so sure this was helpful. Maybe someone knows what I'm talking about?)

I'll bet you're right Pam - I have those rubbery things. I got them in a kit directly from Sizzix - they came with a bunch of very large texture plates - way larger than any embossing folder I have. I'll bet they would help the definition.

Yes, on youtube that woman used one of the Spellbinders mats. I used two pieces of that fun foam stuff in different positions but maybe that is too soft. I got the best impression with the thicker chipboard so a thicker item makes a better impression.

The Spellbinders embossing mats are silicone, which is denser than the fun foam would be.
