Crackle Paint and A Heat Gun

Post by mpizzazz »

Does anyone know if using a heat gun will make crackle paint crack more? Or does it stop the process?
Getting a bit impatient here!

It works the same as if it were air drying. Just don't hold it too close to the paper. I always get impatient, too and resort to giving it a little help. Make sure you dry it from the back, also, as your paper is wet from the paint. I've stamped on top of it before without doing that and the results weren't very good - the ink came out very pale.

Thanks, Pams! It never did crackle very much so I guess that old bottle of stuff is well past its use by date. I've had it since before Tim was born!

It doesn't crackle really - it's really more of a "crazing" - like bad dishware (where water gets under the finish and lift it to make tiny cracks in the finish).

Water a bit of dark paint down and brush it over the cracks - you'd be amazed at how many there really are. If you want larger cracks, put the crackle on thick. Thin gives you small.

I've moved on to trying the Golden Crackle Paste. It says it could take over 3 days to dry  . I'm just putting it on lightly and it's sitting in the sun. We'll see, haven't used it much!

I might have to try that Delta crackle, Pam. My old one is DecoArt, definitely not trendy now but it did work better than some back in the day.
