Finally, here's my take on "patriotic" - very un-patriotic I'm afraid...
Journal reads: "As a child of the Sixties in Germany I was brought up with the idea that patriotism is altogether despicable. Folklore and folk culture had been brought into disrepute due to Hitler’s connection with them and use of them in propaganda. Our folk tales, dialects, festivals and dances all were in bad flavour and even the great Nordic epics were taken off the curriculums. There were certainly no national holidays or parades. It was rare to even see women wearing our national dress, the Dirndl, as my Mum and I do in the photo. I’ve still got one of those and love wearing it for formal occasions.

Again, used some really old paper here, some sort of "German Collage" thing. Prezl buttong from Dress it up and ribbon from my haberdashery stash; plus Craft Creations peel-offs.

Amazing ideas here ladies! I love that each and every one is so very different and patriotism is varied.

Here is my entry for this one. It is my dad and while he never served one day in the military due to a childhood injury he was there and doing all the running for the families. Both his brothers served in the Military and he was very proud of them. My dad served his brothers and helped pay his brothers car payment so he would have a vehicle when he got home. It always bothered dad that he could not do more.

Cheryl, great story, thanks for sharing. Do I see Lucky Strikes in his front pocket? Or am I just showing my age?

Thanks Paula, I get very emotional when I think about what he did. It could be I know he smoked for years but not sure what brand. My eyesight is not able to read it.

Oh, yes, that is nice! I love the contrast between the thick rough stripes and the smooth bling stars.

This one had me stumped for awhile till I found this photo of me (about age 6) enjoying my very first sparkler. I miss being able to have fire works on the 4th, and have really fond memories from childhood.
