November 2017 Card Sketch - Double Your Pleasure...

Post by paddlegal »

...Double your gum...er no, double your cards!

I was really taken by this “twofer” of Jennifer McGuires’ a few weeks ago so I thought this would make a fun (possibly challenging) technique to learn. It takes the right stamp or stamps to create this fun edge stamping as Jennifer calls it but once you get the hang of it, it really streamlines making a set of cards.

I am adding here a link to her video on this technique. I have step-by-step photos that don’t begin to explain this stamping idea. But in a nutshell you are going to take two 4” X 5.25” pieces of card stock (of your choice and color), butt and tape them together on the back side and stamp on the top side by using one stamp or a cluster of stamps, rotating the taped card stock and stamping your image until all four corners are stamped. This can be done with or without a stamp positioner.

Do watch Jennifer’s video, my explanation is just too lame. My first card was created by a cluster of stamps from one set. It’s a little wimpy but it was my first shot at this. The second card (unifinished) was done with just one stamp. One stamp..cluster of stamps...makes no difference in the speed of getting it done.

Jennifer’s video:

I’ll finish the black and white flower soon. I just wanted to get something up for the 1st of November.

A few steps to get you started:

Tape two 4” X 5.25 pieces of card stock on the back side, butted together.

Stamp your image or cluster of images on each side on the seams of the two pieces.

Carefully remove tape, rotate the card stock so you can again butt the seams together that are blank and tape again on the back side.

Stamp your image again on each side on the seams of the two pieces.

Now you should have stamped images in each corner on two pieces of card stock.

This can be done with or without a stamp positioner.

Okay, I know, it’s confusing. That’s why I added Jennifer’s video. Watch it and it will become clear.

OH yay! I'm glad you posted this. I actually bought a stamp set to do this technique. Now it will be used instead of languishing in my stamp bin. I actually went to Staples to buy Post It tape and of course they don't have it. I'm not sure why felt I had to buy it when my stamp positioner & magnets will work perfectly fine.

That’s great Pam! You do want to use tape of some kind (washi) so it’s easy to pick up and turn 180 for the other corners. I have a large hydrangea stamp I want to try also for this.

I haven't had much time to stamp this month...
But I did see this video from Unity Stamps that is kind of like this technique, but good for those who don't have a stamp positioner!

Jill I haven’t watched this video yet but there is no requirement for Copics or any other coloring method. Just try stamping with any kind of stamp and Ink. Adding additional color is optional.

Thanks for the video Nancy. I’ll check it out.

Like Farley says, you don't need copies. I just wanted those who don't have a Misti to see another way to stamp and get the same sort of look. How you stamp/color etc is up to you! You could do solid images if you can't color well!

Sorry about the break... if you follow Cathy Zielske she recently broke her hand, can't do her work!
