I heard a noise......

Post by katymjo »

We have had torrential rain, I heard a "crump" and looked out of the front door. Our neighbour's wall had given way and fallen on top of some of my plants. Glad it's not our wall!

Your poor plants. Glad it wasn't your wall and even happier you weren't standing close enough to be injured! It looks as overcast here in NC today.

Oh my! That wall must have been in pretty bad shape to crumble like that. Sorry about your plants but happy no one was hurt.

Yikes! Glad it wasn't the wall next to it with the car parked right above. Try to stay dry. ;)

I think it's going to be quite a big job as there are more cracks! I'd just put new plants in too!

Sorry about your plants, but it might have been worse if they were prized ones you'd had in that spot for years that got crushed. Dave (my SIL) and I were talking about the garden today, and what plants he'd want to take with him if he moved. There are a couple of trees with sentimental value that are too big to move: an evergreen that was one of the seedlings he and Rebecca gave as wedding favours when they got married 21 years ago, and a double lilac I gave them as a housewarming present when they bought their first/previous house. The only other one he's attached to is a gorgeous peony that came originally from his great-grandfather's house; it was moved from there to his father's house, then to his first house, and now this house. It's pretty big and I suggested he could split it, but he doesn't want to do anything it might not like. We have lots of other peonies but that's the only one with sentimental value.

Keitha, it would be rewarding to take photos of the treasured trees, make a little album and buy new small trees of the same variety. That way you'd keep the memories and have the trees too.

You're right, I should take photos of the trees and record the memories. We're not actually planning a move, but were just speculating 'what if'. But you never know...

Can you get those plants moved into your real garden before you leave for the week with us?

I'll see if I can put them in big pots, just as soon as someone comes and shifts that big slab. We're not getting involved.
