Work drama

Post by jfugina »

This post isn't about the usual work drama that makes me drink. The upcoming (likely) work drama is due to the fact that the city I work in is preparing to be a riot scene next week.

https://news.yahoo.com/st-louis-county- ... 19375.html

On Friday, an e-mail went out to our department to notify people that they should bring all of their equipment (laptops) home over the weekend and prepare to work remotely next week. Infrastructure people were scrambling to make sure people who didn't already have remote access were set up to work from home. We were warned that both city police and university police would be occupying our building, which would be on complete lockdown. If we expected to enter the building at all, we'd need to show university ID. Oh, and explain why the hell we thought we needed to be someplace that they told us to stay away from.

Obviously everyone is preparing for what they think will be the worst case scenario. I've got to travel to work next week regardless, due to meetings on the main campus and at the medical center, but those aren't in Clayton. Anyway, when St. Louis is back in the spotlight next week, and Clayton, MO in particular, know that I'm not in the middle of it - I'll be finding somewhere safe to work and staying the heck out of the ruckus.

In other news, it's a great weekend to go flying down the highway without getting a ticket! LOL. There is a MO State Hwy Patrol Headquarters about a mile from my house. We drove by today, and I think it's safe to say that there is very little highway being patrolled in Missouri this weekend - there had to be hundreds of police vehicles in that lot when we drove by. Someone equated this to what "hurricane watch" feels like. I don't like it. I can't wait for this to all be done. Ug.

I wondered if you had taken your family off on an adventure for the rest of the month. There are similar preparations around the country but I can't imagine being in the thick of it. Regardless of how you feel about the situation, you can find something else to do rather than destroy your home town.
Be safe, Julie.

I've been following the news. Stay safe.

My work drama for the week was falling down the stairs yesterday. Right knee, shoulder and foot are an aching mess. And yes, I filled out all of the incident report forms and Workman's Comp forms, just in case. I did NOT go for a drug test. Not that it would have found anything - I just didn't want to drive I-74 in the dark.

Wow. Julie, I sincerely hope it ends up being much ado about nothing rather than turning into a war zone!

Pam, do you have the klutz gene in your family too? It runs rampant in mine! Feel better soon.

Julie - I hope that it isn't as bad as they predict, but sadly I fear it will be bad.

Pam - ouch! Hope you heal up quick, no fun being sore.

Praying that Obama's call for calm will help keep things relatively peaceful. I think the waiting is the worst part - the sword of Damocles is hanging over St. Louis' head.

Well, I am at work today. Should the crap hit the fan at any point today (or this week), I have an alternate office I can go to that's away from most the ruckus.

The waiting is definitely the worst part.

I'm fine. Tired from staying up way too late watching Ferguson burn. I've got to go in to work today, but I'll be working out of other offices since they closed ours.

I'm hoping to just skip the rest of the day and come home after my morning meetings.
