Poster Board Help!!
Poster Board Help!!
Hello all! So I have a question: I have been asked to do 4 - 5 feet x 4 feet - acrylic paintings, abstract, of musical instruments. I did the background on one, looks great, but now my board is curving in the middle...ugh....would a small strip of wood along the middle, long end, be ok with a small nail holding it in place on each end to keep the posterboard flat? I'm stumped....and don't want to ruin it...worst case, I'll have to buy LARGE canvases, but she wanted them on posterboard to be able to carry easily....I'm hoping the wood/nail will stay in the posterboard and not come out...any ideas? TIA!!
Re: Poster Board Help!!
That sounds like it would work. If you mounted it on luan (sp?) would it be too heavy? Short of those two ideas, I'm drawing a blank.
I would love to see pictures!

Lol now I have to go look that up ...and yes, I'll post pics
Re: Poster Board Help!!
I looked up luan, and that looks like it would work too, maybe better, it's fairly cheap, and I can get it to fit the entire board. Hoping the nails will stay in he poster board....thanks for your help!!!! I'll post pics of the progress tomorrow
Re: Poster Board Help!!
I don't think it would be possible to do something that big on poster board. It just doesn't have the strength to support the weight of the wet medium. It would need some kind of support behind it just like a stretched canvas. Maybe nail the posterboard to some wood frames and then gesso over the posterboard to hide the nails and seal the paper. But if you do that, canvases might be better. Does the person who is suggesting this have any experience with this method?
Re: Poster Board Help!!
No, she doesn't...she likes my art and wanted me to do 4 boards for a women's event that they will be using as photo backdrops...
Re: Poster Board Help!!
Luan is fairly light and can be purchased in several difference thicknesses. You can use book binders glue to glue your poster board to the luan, which I'm sure you have in quantity! I'd use the thinnest possible so it won't be overly heavy. Can't wait to see what you create. I may get some ideas from you for canvasses to put over the piano.
Re: Poster Board Help!!
Maybe it's not posterboard I'm using, it's the light foam core board....so I'm hoping the nail will stay in it...I think if i glue it, the board wanting to bend will pull away from whatever backing I use...
Re: Poster Board Help!!
how about one of those metal frames?
Re: Poster Board Help!!
How would I attach it? I think metal or would is going to be fine, I'm just worried about a nail or gluing keeping it attached.
Re: Poster Board Help!!
