2018 March Card Sketch Challenge - Diorama!
2018 March Card Sketch Challenge - Diorama!
I’m sure there’s another name for this card but as I’ve been playing with this card style I’ve had fun creating little scenes. I will confess that I made the card base on my KNK but this base is really simple.
1. Cut card base to 8.5 X 5.5
2. Place card horizontally (photo below) and score starting from the left at 1 5/8, 2 5/8, 5 7/8 and 6 7/8. See...easy!
3. Panel measurements:
2 Outer Panels - 1 3/8 X 5 1/4
2 Inner Panels - 3/4” X 5 1/4
1 Interior Single Panel 3 X 5 1/4
4. If you want to have an interior support to add an image (like the fish) then cut strip to 4 1/4 X 3/4 plus score from each end at 1/2”. I used a heavy clear strip of plastic to mount the fish so it appears to be floating.
5. Bridge at the bottom and/or top (like fish card) 6 1/2 X 1 1/2 (or narrower like the top bridge)
Please feel free to make this card at any size. These dimensions are to help you understand the construction and are what I used to make them.
This card sketch works well with 8.5 X 11 card stock for the base and the rest you can use your 6 X 6 pads or scraps.
The fish card was made entirely from the new Photoplay “Paper Crane” collection. The fish is a sticker and the lantern a stamp.
Toucan card paper is made from Echo Park “Summer Fun” 6 X 6 pad and the stamps are from My Favoritie Things.
I know this looks a bit complicated but really it is not. Just take one step at a time in how you assemble it. I think this card makes for a fun stage for our stamps.
Have fun!

Gorgeous cards, Farley. Happy March! Question: do these fold for mailing and if so, how?
Re: 2018 March Card Sketch Challenge - Diorama!
They’re wonderful and I’m wondering about being able to mail them as well!

Yes they fold and sorry I forgot to add that. They are not A2 however so there will probably be extra postage.
Folded it measures 6.5 X 5.5...I know, weird size.
Simply push the card down to the left or to the right.

Well of course they fold. That's so obvious, and yet it wasn't...

BTW...here’s a link to the Lori Whitlock video for that style card. One piece of advice after watching...put that outer support bridge piece on LAST! She does it first which totally blocks everything else you need to add inside the card and makes a huge mess as you will see.

And...thank you for all your kind comments. I hope to see your versions of this. I have another one in the works I may get to over the next few days. Huge storm over us since last night so a great crafting and cozy book reading day.
From earlier this morning and it’s not letting up...but it’s needed. But I can do without the 35MPH winds.

Farley, I had a go at your diorama card this morning. It's really a bit brighter IRL, ( another dull day). I cut my card 8 inches wide, which got rid of the pesky eighths, and made it easier to measure and score.

Kathryn that is such a sweet card. Love the stamp. Good for you adjusting the measurements. As I said, I cheat and use the KNK and an SVG file to cut mine so I know the measurements are goofy.

A very cheery card Kathryn!

Great cards. I was wondering too when I saw them how you mail them. I've seen this before, but both sides folded into the middle and that was what I thought at first (that does fold down then to a regular A2). Of course, what I saw did not have the bar on the top or bottom.
