Special Birthday Gift
My co-worker is an amazing woman; in the 11 years I’ve worked with her, I’ve learned so much...mostly “use it or lose it” and get up & show up every day. She is a cancer survivor, a widow, has now lost so many loved ones and friends that really the only thing left is her family, work, and church (which is currently live streamed). I often notice she is looking out the windows, lost in thought...it always gives me pause. I think my point is, we must always be grateful for every day. Nancy turned 85 today! She is undoubtedly the strongest woman I have ever known; I am blessed to call her my friend.
But what do you give someone that age who needs nothing? As I scoured the Internet for ideas, I came across the cut file for a beautiful cross...eventually, a shadow box came to mind. This is what I ended up doing, along with the help of my boss’ wife who printed the sheet music & aged/distressed it. I was taken aback when she cried...until she was able to tell me that The Old Rugged Cross was her favorite hymn.

That was a beautiful and thoughtful thing that you did.

Beki, I can't think of a more meaningful gift.

Beki what a wonderful friend you are putting such a meaningful gift together for her. And she is still working at 85! You made her day in the best possible way. This brought tears to my eyes too seeing her reaction.
I am intrigued by all the figurines on her window ledge.

She only has 130, give or take a few!paddlegal wrote:I am intrigued by all the figurines on her window ledge.
They’re all solar powered and move! She got a little hula girl, 5 or 6 years ago...then a hula boy...and the rest is history! People bring them to her now! Well, they did before we locked the doors to the public. She has some very unique ones (even Elvis, who she loves). It’s always fun to see people react when they walk by & notice them.
And thank you for your sweet compliment.

What a wonderful gift. So thoughtful. And you know she'll cherish it.
