Frustration Solved!

Post by LadyJaine »

That's much better than mischief managed.

I wanted to curl the edges of a piece of paper. I got a set of templates from a site I don't usually buy from. The templates were difficult to use, badly organized and in general, frustrating for me. I went to my favorite site, got a different set of less expensive templates and zipped right through my project.

In this case, the files in the first kit by Vicki Stegall were of widely varying sizes and confusingly named and organized. Increasing the size by stretching the files wouldn't work. Proportions would be wrong and the image quality would suffer. When working with a full sheet of 12x12 paper, as I usually do, I had to come up with workarounds. The second kit by Natali, had all the files 12x12 in size. They worked with 12x12 paper and could easily be cut down with no loss of quality. Vicki's kit had templates in different formats. But the different formats all had the same sizing problem.

I just wanted you beginning digi-scrappers to know that a lot of the time, it isn't you. It's the stuff you are trying to work with. Is a free headache worth the price of the aspirin? In this case, my headache wasn't free and that made it even more annoying. If you get a kit and it's good, please share. If you get one that isn't, please share what you found to be the problem.

I've noticed that about some templates, I like them, but when I use them, the directions that I have from 1 place won't work on some templates, ..... ugh....... some of the Freebies can be a headache too.

I try to stay away from freebies, unless I'm using them to check out the skills of a designer before I make a major investment in their stuff. For these templates, I foolishly thought there wasn't much room for error. Boy! Was I wrong. I have a sub folder in my bookmarks list for folks I have checked out and do NOT want to buy from again. Otherwise, I couldn't remember who I liked and who I didn't, as the names are all so similar. I don't put the folks I like in a sub folder, because I don't want to have to go clicking through folders for them.

Jean - I don't know how much of a curl you wanted, but if you want to create your own:

The only problem that I had with this was that she used an antiquated version of PhotoShop and I'm so darned literal minded that I need absolute directions for my version.

Theresa - you may be able to pick up some tips on brushes here. I think it was you asking about them.
