Question About Rubber UM Stamps

Post by pbp908 »

I really need to order some stamps. (Notice I said "need!") I love WM stamps, but the stamps that I want are rubber UMs cut on cling foam. I'm assuming that the cling foam makes these usable with acrylic blocks? How would I mount these on wood or do I really want to do that?

yes, they cling to acrylic and need no further treatment...I spose you could adhere straight to wood as is??????

I just prefer wood, but all of the Tim Holtz stamps that I want I can only find as either rubber UM or clear cling. Not being a fan of clear stamps for some reason (I really don't know why - maybe because they seem fragile) I don't want to go that route. I guess I could learn to appreciate the rubber UMs, but how do you see your image? Are they marked on the back? Lots of questions before I take the plunge.

most come with a photo of what's on the stamp...I keep these with the stamps...or, you can make your own my stamping a sheet with each of the UMs so you know what the images are...I like UMs because you can store WAY more of them in less space!!!

Some are also marked on the back. So you would see them through the acrylic block.

I have about 1/2 my TH stamps that have the image on the other side.

I believe Luanne has woodmounted a number of stamps that she bought as unmounted and can give you the best advice and how to get the supplies at good pries... I've done the opposite, taken a number of stamps away from their wood mounting and added a cling product to the back!

Oh heck - while I'm in a shopping mood, I'm just going to order them and give it a go. Thanks for letting me know how they work. If I never try anything different, I'll never learn, will I?

Pam, I ordered 2 sets of Tim's new stamps and they came with a very sturdy sheet that the stamps cling to. On the back is the image of the stamps on that sheet. I ordered his stamp binder to go with it, it holds quite a few, I love them!! They're really cushy too, so they stamp really well.

It seems like every weekend I'm online ordering. I'm getting ready to give up my CS membership, tho, because I'm overrun with paper. It's the other things that I don't have a good supply of - ink, stamps, etc.

One of my most favorite new thigs from CS is Mount It -- the glue-like stuff you "paint" on the back of UM stamps, let dry until clear, and it stays tacky. It clings beautifully to an acrylic block and if you have trimmed the rubber well, positioning is pretty easy-breezy. I'm converting ALL my UMs. 'bout halfway there.

I store them in CD cases. One UM sheet from CS fits in one case with the black plastic insert removed. I label the case with the collection name, store them alpha in a tall CD storage unit, and its real easy to grab and go. Saves tons of space and streamlines the stamping process.
I love it!

Good luck finding your best fit!

I stopped mine for awhile too. I really want to invest in other things just like you. Let me know what deals you've found!

Lanita - No deals found. LOL. Just everyone who has what I want and is more than ready to take my card. I wish that it weren't so close to Christmas - I could easily spend a load of money right now.

Cyndy, the glue from retreat is the CS version of Aileen's tack it over and over. I'm not using mine, so remind me next time I see you to give it to you.

I do put Tim's stamps on wood. First get a block the right size. You will want the kind with the notched sides, now is not the time to same $$, because you won't like using it, unless it has the curved edges. Then ink up your stamp with staz-on. position it over the wood, and imprint the wood block. Here's the tricky part... use your ATG adhesive and get the cling side of the stamp all full of ATG tape, then position it to the unmarked side of the wooden mount. The trick is lining it up EXACTLY the way te stamp looks, or you'll forever be stamping crooked. If you make a huge mistake marking the block, you have one more shot at it on the other side. Go slowly, mounts are expensive.
