Sudoku Quilt

Post by azemigh »

Since you asked, I went ahead and took a pic. A Sudoku quilt is a quilt based on a sudoku puzzle. You do the puzzle and then assign 9 different fabrics (1 for each number) and cut 9 squares from each fabric. Put the fabrics in the order of the numbers in the puzzle. My dad's favorite color happens to be green and since I made this for him I chose all greens. You could choose multi colors or even do novelty prints and make an I Spy quilt out of it. The close up is a picture of my signature in the border quilting.

This one actually has a quilt pattern to it as well. If you look at the blocks as a quadrant that looks like a tic tac toe grid you'll notice that there are 3 blocks repeated 3 times each. It gives some of the squares a stair step pattern. The finished quilt is 45x45 and each sudoku block is 4" before sewing (3 1/2" finished)

Thanks for posting it, Rachelle! That's a very clever take on the traditional nine patch. Sooo...does your Dad have to figure it out in some way?

I'm just giving my DH a fiendishly hard (supposedly) book of puzzles, no quilt. We need a smilie with an "L" in the middle of his forehead! But DD is getting a teeshirt quilt for her B-day, does that count?

beautiful quilt...and green is my fav color too! but way too mathmatical for me I think...I can't do those puzzles! I made a couple quilts but much simpler than yours.

I love the puzzles, and wonder why I never thought to translate it into a quilt. Great idea, and wonderful translation.

Rachelle,

That's a wonderful quilt. I'm visualizing this concept for cards and LOs, too. Thanks so much for sharing this idea!
