Beach week 2016 (activities)

Post by pamcook »

May 7 is going to be (Inter)National Scrapbook Day. I know Shimelle plans another online crop for the weekend. As we all know, many sites host online events so there will be inspiration coming at us from all directions. I'll have my laptop or iPad so we can check the interwebs. Yes, I realize we can use smartphones but I really have trouble with small screens any more.

Anyone have crafting goals for the week? I might bring my JYC and actually get Christmas 2015 documented. Another idea is to bring my scrap bag and use it to make some background pages for my stash. One minute, I want to have set goals and the next, I'm all "meh! It's the beach. I might get some pages done and I might not."

Anyone have destinations to visit in mind? I want to check out the fire station this year, for sure. There are no photos of me in a fire truck in existence. Even the morning our chimney caught on fire, I didn't take a single photo.

Well I've never been to the area at all so I'm up for whatever as far as sightseeing. I'm a lighthouse geek so that's on the list for sure and I might try to get to the Wright Bros Museum just because.

As far as crafting goals man where to start...since I'm joining into this trip a little late I've got to think about it. But I'd love to knock out some projects I can use for gifts this year. I only have about 1000 Club Scrap projects laying around right now that need completion.

By the way there is wifi right?

Closer than it is from WY!

Debi? It's about 30 minutes north of where we're staying. The scrapbook store is around there. ;)

I plan to bring my 2010 album and try to finish it. Also if I haven't finished my December Daily fort this past season, I'll work on it. Beyond that, no clue.

I'm up for anything. If we go north I'd love to go to the Currituck lighthouse. It's the only one I don't remember seeing yet,or at least since I was a little girl. Ferries are always fun. And oh yes, the beach!

I have the 10K in Charleston in two weeks to get behind me before I can even think of the beach week.

It's going to be fun and I don't even care if I accomplish anything or not.

Kitty Hawk
Kill Devil Hills
Nags Head
Those are north of us - roughly 30 - 40 miles
Includes scrapbook store, Tuesday Morning, and Wright Brothers monument

Manteo is north/west and had one of the NC aquariums - being renovated right now
Also the Elizabethan Gardens

Bodie Island lighthouse is about 20 miles north of us, so you'll get to see that on ant northern trip

Locally - Chicamacomico Lifesaving Station and also fire dept visit

South - Cape Hatteras lighthouse about 20 miles south
The library that Helen is the branch manager is in Hatteras village another 15 miles south
Ferry ride over to Ocracoke Island leaves from Hatteras

Ocracoke Island
Lighthouse
Spanish mustangs
Lots of local artisans' shops
Great photo ops of birds at the docks

I think I've got the big things listed. :-)

Curricula lighthouse is in Corolla. That'd be roughly 70 miles from here.

I would love to go to the Wright Brothers museum this year and I am currently reading a book about them to get ready. One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that on the way in you pass several really nice farmer's market/fresh food stands. Plus, this awesome fish market right where we are that sells either fish for you to take home and cook or you can order some cooked combos and just pick it up. Bring a cooler if you want to take some home.

Love Wright Brothers, Debi how far is Alligator River State park? That is really supposed to be nice and might be a good place to visit.

I haven't visited the alligator river state park... not sure where the closest paths or visitor's center are... I know there's something west of Manteo... that's roughly 35 miles from us... so further than that

Might be a better idea in case there's a rainy day and you still want to venture out... to go to the NC Aquarium... there are otters and alligators and lots of fish... and turtles... I'm looking forward to seeing all the renovations... of course, I'll need to pay attention to when they'll be opening up again... hopefully by that week... but I may be jumping the gun
