I haven't used it much yet and I've never sewn on a layout before so if anyone's a pro, maybe you can teach me any special paper sewing techniques.
I was thinking of bringing my machine, Debi, but now I am changing my mind. I have sewn on paper and I usually save my old needles to use on paper. Sometimes you have to guide/pull the paper through if the feed dogs won't guide it. I'll be glad to help if you want to do some practice on the machine, Debi, with paper or fabric.

Debi, I would probably use a sewing machine if you bring it. I'm just lazy enough to pull mine out at home.

Ok... sewing machine will be coming... probably not the first day or two since Mike will be helping carry other things, too... but I'll bring it up mid-week. Not sure if I'll sew on anything in the Arizona scrapbook, but I'll bring some scraps to practice on... I'll get some more needles (it only came with a few) and, oddly, I have another new machine at the house, so I won't worry about messing this one up. :-)

What kind of needles does it take, Debi? If it takes the normal Schmetz 80/12 type, I have lots of needles I can bring for paper.

Perhaps lined with fun foam; on their own I'm not sure. But I for one would love to have a couple empty SU cases just for storage, if you have them to spare.

Marianne... the sewing machine is a heavy duty Singer machine... takes Singer needles.... I need to double-check to make sure there's not more than one kind of Singer needles, but I don't think so... and I need to order extras anyway so I'll make sure I have extras, too...

but... if old ones work well for sewing paper, then that'll be good to use older ones... we'll see if those fit. :-)

Debi, is it an old machine? Singers used to have their own needles but a lot of standardization has taken place. I have no idea if the newer machines take the standard ones or not. Do you have a manual? or can you search on the model number online?

Never use a brand new needle for paper, save the sewing ones and use those for paper.

I'll get the model number. It's one we bought at Tuesday Morning after Irene. I just hadn't gotten around to using it. :-)

Is anyone bringing a Silhouette? I have access to some gorgeous cut files but my Silhouette only cuts 8.5 x 11 (not that I'd probably cut full 12 x 12 designs anyway). Debating whether to bring mine - haven't used it in over a year and I'd be back to square one.

Is anyone bringing a big shot? I am trying to decide whether or not to bring a few dies.

Debi, I'm assuming all dies work in the Big Shot with the right sandwich; can you use embossing folders in it, too?
