My little Christmas bird.

Christmas in July!? I just finished him this afternoon. I need to start Christmas crafts early as I lead a Craft Break every October. The same friends come each year, so I can't trot out the same "golden oldies" every time! So this is the first of the decorations for the tree. You can't really see in the photo, but he has a fancy patterned fabric on his underside.
Kathryn.

Your ornament reminds me of what I'd say to Crackers every time I walked into Bonnie's house - "Who's a pretty bird?" Your bird is a pretty bird!

I love all the detail! The colors are so pretty and rich. Is his belly the same as the underside of his tail? I love handmade ornaments. Nothing quite as perfect for a tree.

Which reminds me - remember Paula? She made some with scraps of old quilts. I saw them on instagram.

Nice project... I'm sure everyone will enjoy making them. Is the pattern something you could share? I'd love to try sewing some of those for gifts this year! :-)

The little bird is 8 inches from his beak to the end of his tail. The pattern is from a book called Tidings by Nancy Halvorsen in the Art to Heart series. It is "Christian Christmas in a folksy style". I bought the book the last time we visited Marianne, when she took me to a really nice quilt store called Hoppin Bobbin.
