Water Coloring with Distress Oxide Ink on Dark Paper
Water Coloring with Distress Oxide Ink on Dark Paper
Finally on Wednesday I had a chance to take my inks to my craft group day and water color with them on dark card stock. This water color textured paper, which is a dark taupe shade, worked great with the inks. I first embossed the images with white embossing powder then used the inks just like water colors. I smushed the chosen colors on an acrylic block as my palette and applied the inks with a water brush. I'm really happy with the results. I found the large open area stamps easier to paint and control my blending than with the smaller detailed floral images.
Not wanting to waste what was still on the palette I smushed small tags through the inks. I love having blank decorative tags on hand for cards or gift tags.

Very impressive Farley, both the Oxide inks and your colouring skills!

Very nice, Farley. I agree that the larger open areas are more fun, as you've more room to blend colours. I think the opaqueness of the Oxide inks will work very well on Kraft paper, too.

I knew I was missing my main question. Where does one get watercolor paper in darker colors?

Very nice, Farley. I have oxide inks ordered, can hardly wait till they arrive.

Okay, I'm caving. I don't have the budget for all the colors. Has anyone tried blending the colors? I'm considering buying the "primary colors" first. Okay, scratch that - I just ordered 4 of them.
Which colors did you use on these samples?

Marianne I have this paper in black as shown as well as the gray tones which have 3 or 4 colors on the pad. It's actually for using pastels but the texture and weight is good enough for water coloring.
Pam I can't quite recall all the colors but I know there wasn't any brown or red used. Big help I know.
