Derby Day

Our little community has a Kentucky Derby Day party every year. We start about 2:30 playing a horse race game for nickels and dimes, then watch the race together and have a potluck. We finish it off with a hat contest. I decided to take one of my mom's old tiaras from her majorette days and turn it into the "triple crown" for my hat this year. I added flower towers of red roses, black eyed susans and white carnations, a couple of sticker horses and a horseshoe. One of my pool buddies created a "bookie's" visor and wanted a fake cigarette or cigar to "chew" on while she sells raffle tickets so I tried my hand at making them with paper and embossing powder.

OMGosh Rachelle! How fun is that? My aunt in IL always had a Derby Day party and I so wished I could have attended one. She would love what you're doing.

Love your "hat" and fake cigs. Sounds like a lot of fun.
