Truly amazing! Those photographers will wait for days for some of those shots. Thanks Pam for the link.

Wow. Those photos are truly fantastic. I wish I could learn to take photos like that. But I do know that it takes not only incredible skill/talent, but the patience of a saint, which I don't have.

Not to mention, Julie, incredibly expensive and heavy equipment. I run into bird photographers while I’m out and it’s crazy the size of the lens on their cameras! They require a huge handle and harness. That’s why I love my Nikon “bridge camera” (Nikon Coolpix P900...highly recommend it). I will never be able to take those kinds of photos but I’m happy with my very amateurish results for my own pleasure. I am in awe of those photographers and their fabulous skills and patience.

I would be hard pressed to choose a favorite but I really love the Pelican shot.

The one that spoke to my heart was the Kingfisher. The colors were fantastic and the portrait had such a dreamy quality that it drew me in.

This is a far cry from the photos in that link. But I wanted to share a moment of beauty from last night after watching too much sadness on TV all day long. The boys were both gone for the evening so I grabbed a birding buddy and we went to Cosumnes River Preserve where I do the bird surveys. The Sandhill Cranes started showing up about 3 weeks ago and are still arriving. 1000s of them winter in various refuges and preserves just south of me.

The Sandhills after being out all day foraging and loafing return at dusk to a safe pond for them to roost in during the night. This is one of my favorite shots from last night.

I posted a few more on FB.
