2018 April Card Sketch Challenge - Bold, Black Patterns

Post by paddlegal »

Happy April!

Have you noticed the trend of bold, black patterned papers as accents to an assortment of cards? I like this look and thought it would be fun to play around with this latest trend. This can be accomplished with patterned paper, washi tape and stamps. Create your own bold, black pattern with what you have on hand.

Here are a few I’ve made so far. This first card the bold polka dot hardly shows...just a hint at the top and bottom edge. The other two were created with two of my Art Journal pages I made for my mixed media class this past week.

Grab your bold patterned stamps, washi tape and scraps of black and white papers and give it a go!

Nice use of your mixed media pages! The black and white parts are a fun contrast!

Great idea! I have a lot of graphic B&W and rarely use it.

Thanks...hope you all with give this a try. I can’t take credit for this look. Catherine Pooler and MyFavoriteThnigs in particular have been promoting this trendy style and put out their own 6x6 B&W paper pads. The prints I’ve used are from MFT. I think it can give a nice pop to any style or type of card.

Layouts too of course!

I want to try using washi tape and some border stamps next.

I saw this Double Point Fold Card on Pinterest and thought it would be perfect for this challenge. Here's the tutorial if you want to take a look https://lisasstampstudio.com/2018/02/pe ... -card.html

Thanks for the challenge, Farley.

Just a heads up if you decide to make one of these cards -- the written instructions say to score the 3 x 4 piece on the 3" side. That is incorrect, you score the 4" side.

Thanks for that tip. I missed your second card somehow. It’s wonderful also.

I'm not a big fan of pink but when it's with black or grey, it looks fabulous! Very sophisticated, Sue!
