Bullet Journals - AKA: BUJO

Post by paddlegal »

Get a cup of your favorite beverage...this could be a long post.

A number of years ago I investigated the now well-known Bullet Journal method of keeping track of your life and staying organized. My first reaction was its crazy and you were going to spend more time on making creative “collections” than you were getting things done. That opinion continued until last month. Catherine Pooler premiered her CANVO in November. Don’t ask what that stands for...I personally think it’s an awkward name that means something only to her. Nevertheless, I liked what I saw and went for the full kit which included the journal (CANVO), 3 sets of stamps and 6 of her new mini ink pads.

I. Am. Hooked. If you Google/YouTube/Instagram/Pinterest “bullet journal”, a whole, different world opens up and swallows you...well me anyway. I am absolutely fascinated with this BUJO stuff to the point where I’ve bought two other types of journals so I can experiment across 3 individual journals different types of pages, designs, stamping and calligraphy.

I have never been a planner girl but I guess I am now a BUJO girl. All of my journals are “dot” journals making it really easy to draw lines without the interference of lines or grids.

The following pages are my first attempts at BUJOing in the CANVO. The very last page showing “2019” is in a Leuchturm journal. I enjoyed using my December pages up to a point. I left out the habit tracker because I didn’t like using it, LOL. These pages are a mix of stamps (mostly CP), assorted markers, brush markers and my own handwriting/calligraphy. The coming year will be interesting to see if I keep this up and how I develop my style and useful pages.

Stay with me and if any of you are doing bullet journals let’s make a category to share ideas. This is my way of starting the New Year with a fun, beneficial goal.

More photos to come...stand by.

Nearly done with photos.

Daily Activity - love this page. I have faithfully written each evening what I did that day on one line.

2019 Cover page in the Canvo. 2019 and frame hand drawn. Flowers are an Altenew stamp set.

My practice page of handwriting. I’ve decided as much as I love the vast styles of calligraphy I’ve seen in videos, my own style will do. But I love practicing my writing with various brush markers. Drop shadows have been fun to use. This is a separate, simple lined book I use for this.

The last of my photos...for now!

January Month Calendar

First weekly calendar for January...not sure I will actually find this useful

My 2019 Cover Page in the Leuchturm dot journal rather than the CANVO was all hand drawn.

Thank you for sticking with me and if you didn’t I don’t blame you!

Those are really cool, Farley! It's always a good feeling to find something that fits your style, isn't it?

Thank you Monica! I’m not sure what my style is yet. it will be interesting to see this coming year how it evolves. Whatever it is, I have found it quite relaxing to plan my pages, draw them up and determine embellishments, colors and calligraphy style.

Gee...it sounds a little like scrapping!

Those are all beautiful, Farley! A great way to experiment and use things like markers and washi tape.

Oh my goodness! I love them all.

I spend the most time on each monthly calendar even though I don’t look at it that often. My weekly pages are generally washi tape & stickers - sometimes stamps. Great place to practice lettering. Maybe I’ll pull out January and work on it a bit today.

I've started so many journals
I have a stack of them.
Never completed any of them.
I have the little pictures from a lady that I can print on sticker paper

Too many irons in the fire I guess.

I do a modified one every year.

Maya is huge into this. She carries it around with her everywhere and always is working in it or writing or just flipping through. People always stop and peek over her shoulder at it. She swears it is what keeps her on track.

What a wonderful job Farley! I keep one but no where near as nice as yours - mine is preprinted calendar type.

Everything looks so nice Farley. I went down that planner rabbit hole and found it took up way to much of my time I would rather be spending making scrapbook layouts or cards so I had to make a choice. I still keep a super downsized planner but not to the point of stressing myself over it. Funny thing I still find myself looking and writing on my wall calendar way more than my planner. I guess because it’s easy and convenient.

Good for you Farley - I looked at them and decided "not for me". I just thought that is so much more work than I'm willing to do right now. I print my journal pages using a digi kit I bought for PSE. Lazy - I can personalize it but in literal minutes. Your's is absolutely beautiful, it shows you put a lot of love and work into it.
