Farley’s Craft Room Purge - Week 1 Stamps

Post by paddlegal »

I started yesterday afternoon pulling down 6 fridge bins packed with clear stamp sets, some with matching dies. Four that I purged now have room to breathe and the other two are empty! Two large paper grocery bags are stuffed with stamp sets.

Miles to go before I sleep. But so far this really feels good.

Maybe Farley needs to start the next RAK box.... then we can all swap things out so they get more use. :-)

RAK crate would be more accurate. After I do stamps, dies and odd items I will consider that. Or for your next ReCreate I’ll ship it to you. Hahaha. I actually thought of doing that this year but just wasn’t ready to do the job in time.

I've got a load of wood-mounted stamps that are taking up a lot of space.
What's the best way to unmount them?
Will they then work in the TH Stamp Platform?
What can you do to repurpose the left-over wooden blocks?
Any ideas?

That's a lot of questions!

Yes, you can unmount them. Some unmount a lot easier than others, but I've had very few that were truly difficult. It simply takes patience and something good on TV to distract you from the tedium. I recommend removing the rubber from its cushion.

They will absolutely work in the TH stamp platform after being unmounted. Mine are coated with the Aleene's tack it over and over glue that's repositionable, but I know there are a few ways one can deal with unmounteds.

Honestly, I tossed all my wooden blocks because most still had the mounting foam on them. The ones that didn't we used for campfires.

Some will peel right off the wood and others need a bit of time in the microwave to soften the glue on the wood.

Absolutely! But get them down to the rubber only without the foam. You can put double sided tape on the back. Or I think a bit of a glue stick.

What can you do to repurpose the left-over wooden blocks?
I've found people on freecycle who wanted the blocks to attach UMs to or for some other unknown purpose/hobby.
Any ideas?

Monica,
How do you use to store them after they have Aleene's on them? Heavy duty acetate? Does the Tack It get messy after a while?

Great job, Farley!
I'm still organizing molds (does anyone want any molds?) paper and ribbon before I start on clear stamps. Of course What I pull out to purge gets quickly filled by Catherine Pooler stanps

After Irene's flood, I wound up having to unmount all the wood-mounted stamps. The wood had gotten wet with the icky flood water. So.... I soaked them in some soapy water and that helped loosen the glue. Then I wound up just tossing all those wood blocks.

I then painted the backs with the Tack-it-over-and-over glue by Aileene's ... and it works great when using the stamps on an acrylic block or in my Misti or Tim Holtz platform.

I use the Crafter's Companion EZMount 8.5" X 11" stamp storage sheets that fit in 3 ring binders. My binders are 3" spines that I bought in a bundle from Costco.
