2019 September Card Challenge: Kraft Card Stock and Colors

Post by paddlegal »

Happy September and Labor Day! Fall is nearly upon us. Even though it’s 102 outside it has that fall feeling!

I have a pile of collected Kraft card stock from CS and a host of other suppliers. I need to use it. Note the 3 different Kraft paper colors. What is true Kraft paper anyway?

Regardless, let’s make cards using Kraft card stock for backgrounds, card bases, die cuts and stamping on. Then experiment with how to color it up. Kraft reacts so differently to inks, sprays, markers and paint than they do to white card stock.

First card is ALL Kraft with the inked Buffalo Plaid background stamp. I decided to leave the bird and leaves uncolored.

Second card is embossed in rose gold on Kraft then I used wet watercolor pencils to color the flowers. Metallic purple stock from the TH metallic collection.

Like you, I have a large stash of kraft - couldn’t begin to tell how many shades! I always felt like I never had the right color.
I really like the metallic on the kraft. It really is a versatile color.

Very nice Farley. Love the plaid, and of course the shiny purple.

I think this qualifies, although the only kraft you can still identify is the card itself. It takes ink well and is one of my favorite papers to get inky with.

Great cards, Farley and Pam. I definitely need to try Oxides on the kraft cardstock.

I'm not a fan although do have some Kraft cardstock - FOMO you know. Farley, I love your card with the metallics. Pam, you just might have inspired me to try my Oxides on some.

Love the metallics, Farley! I think I'll give this one a try - not too complicated and Kraft is one of my favorites!

I have decided that Kraft cardstock is not my friend. I don't know why, but I had a hard time with this challenge and am not really happy with any of these cards.

#1 - I followed Jennifer McGuire's tutorial and used the Concord & 9th Wreath Turnabout stamp set on light colored Kraft cardstock with Distress Oxide inks (ignore the smudge)

#2 - I pulled out my brayer and used Distress Oxides on the background, stamped the flowers and then colored them with alcohol markers.

#3 - I just used Distress Oxides and Memento Tuxedo Black (because my Distress Oxide Black Soot was pretty much dried up) and the Hero Arts Brush Stroke stamp set.

I don't have very many different types of ink pads - maybe that's my problem. However, I just found a set of small Hero Arts dye ink pads in bright colors that I've never used. I may give it another try.

I made these tonight to send over to Debi. I used the same colors on all the cards but they all look different. I really like how the white ink allows the colored ink to sit on top and not soak into the kraft. The gold Color Shine didn’t soak in either. I stamped the sentiment inside with chalk ink. It worked well on the kraft cardstock.
