December Neglected Supplies-Fibers and Ribbon

Post by mpizzazz »

Here are several card ideas that use either fibers, ribbons or both together. Washi tape or paper scraps could also be used in these same ideas.

These first 3 are cards I did years ago. They also use washi tape and paper scraps.

The last one is mainly paper but it could be ribbons, fibers, lace, etc.

These are newer ideas I found online:

The presents use paper scraps about 2" square and scraps of fibers or narrow ribbon.

Second idea is from KWerner:

My two examples. By the way the "trees" on the horizontal card are grungeboard arrows cut down and painted green.

I hope to see some of your examples using up fibers and ribbons!

Oh my goodness! They’re all beautiful.
I like your older examples a lot. They would be great to have on hand for most occasions.

I just pulled out all the ribbon I will use or lose by the end of the month. It’s all been in my stash (unused) for over five years. This is pretty exciting, really!

Thanks for your enthusiasm, Pam! Those older ones could be any occasion cards. Good excuse to use border stamps and sentiments, too.

Great idea! Might use that very first idea for my cards for at work. I'm running out of steam on card-making. :) i

Got a few card fronts done. I think
That once there’s a layer of colored cardstock behind them, they’ll really look nice.

Can't imagine why you are running out of steam, ha ha! These are fun once you drag out all the scraps of ribbon and paper and a few odds and ends of embellishments to use up.

I agree!
I made one card front between each phone call this morning. I have a ridiculous amount of ribbon! Just dumped the rest in my work desk drawer so I can have it ready to go.

Debi, you deserve a break!

Here are mine. In addition to the neglected ribbon - of which I still couldn't bring myself to use the really nice stuff  - I used up some double-sided adhesive, busted out a new background stamp, and dusted off an old die. I particularly like this technique on the branch, it makes for nice texture. For the top card I distressed the edges of the diecuts with ink to make them pop a bit more off the background, but didn't care for the result so didn't repeat it. I did add some Perfect Pearls splatters to the blue card. What are the chances I have a sentiment stamp that says 'have a holly jolly Christmas'?
It occurs to me that ribbon cards would be a perfect activity for those of you who occasionally take supplies for a group of ladies to craft with. If your ribbon stash is anything like mine you won't even make a dent in it.

Keitha! I love them. Thought about making some hearts but the holly leaves are brilliant. Too bad I don't have green ribbon that would work. And I'm NOT going shopping. I could use some green branding strips though...

Very clever, Keitha! Was it easy diecutting through the ribbon?

Pam, I was surprised how little green ribbon I had when doing my cards. Paper scraps would work well though.

I could easily set you both up with lots of green ribbon, although I didn't have as much variety of dark green as I'd have liked. Marianne, I intentionally chose a big Sizzix die rather than a thin die, and it cut through the ribbon no problem. I'm not sure the thin dies would cleanly cut anything but the thinnest ribbons.
