Farley’s (re)Create Challenge - Bonus Sample

Post by paddlegal »

This was intended to be semi-simple.

The one I’ve made wasn’t all that simple but then, that’s just me. It was a lot of coloring but I seem to be liking that these days. I watched Jennifer McGuire’s “Split Card Trick” on YouTube and decided this would be a fun two-fer card for us to try. Mind you this is my spin on Jennifer’s lovely cards and she made many with this play on two cards at once.

Jennifer’s video. If you fast forward to 6:00 minutes and skip her stamping you’ll see the assembly part.

https://youtu.be/APaMpg8bK48

My version is as follows. 1. Have one of your favorite beverages prepared and on your desk. After all this is (re)Create, right?

The idea behind my little challenge is after viewing Jennifer’s video and hopefully my step-by-step photos make sense, you can easily make two cards out of one grouping of die cuts. Here we go:

Materials:

Stamps with dies or fussy cut stamps
1 5.5 X 8.5 card stock
1 6X6 patterned paper...optional
2 A2 size card bases

1. Have your beverage handy?

Following my photos...

2. To begin, stamp, color (optional) and die cut/fussy cut all stamps. You will need enough stamps to cluster and run past the length of 5.5 inches. Draw a center line dividing the 8.5 X 5.5 card stock into two 4.25 X 5.5 sections. My line is very faint but line will be covered up and not show.

3. If using patterned paper cut one 6X6 piece into 2, 3 X 5.5 pieces and glue each piece to the outside edges of your 5.5 X 8.5 panel. Now layer and glue your stamps in a cluster down the length of the drawn line allowing stamps to hang equally on both sides.

4. Cut this panel now along the hidden line which will give you two 4.25 X 5.5 pieces.

Keep going...

5. Trim whatever is hanging over the edges.

6. Adhere each panel to an A2 size card base. Add a sentiment. You are done. Congratulations...go refill your beverage.

Hate me yet?

Great challenge, Farley! I haven't watched Jennifer's video yet, but your instructions are so clear that I don't even need to. As it's morning here, my beverage just might have to be a little somethin' somethin' in my coffee.

That's a great challenge, Farley! I'll see what I can come up with when I'm sitting at my craft desk.

Great technique! I just got some flower stamps/dies in the mail today from Altenew. I think this may be a great way to break them in.

Oh I would love to see that Gwen. In Jennifer's video she uses Altenew layering stamps and dies in a very cool way for multiple card making. You might want to take a peek at it.

I’m on a roll with this Two-Fer! This time I used one very large and long floral stamp from SSS. I just stamped it right down the middle of the 8.5 X 5.5 card stock, colored it this time with Altenew alcohol markers, cut it down the middle and voila! Two cards!

No one had a large floral stamp so I cut these designs from patterned paper. Cross posting in Keitha’s challenge as the cards are 5x7 - not at all what I would normally make.

Farley - I love your cards! Your coloring skills are fantastic!

Pam you are brilliant...bonus points for thinking out of the box not to mention two super cards! Love it.

I think I recognize the paper you cut...Graphic 45? I forget the name of the collection but I know I have that pad of paper. Again...brilliant!

This is a great idea, Farley, and great variation, Pam! I might even be able to do this with the supplies that aren't packed and/or I know where they are.

I accepted the challenge & followed PamC’s lead with fussy-cutting paper. In fact, I fussy-cutted a piece of her paper! I will cross-post this in Keitha’s challenge because the cards measure 4” x 6”, which I’ve never done before.

These cards are so beautiful! Love this technique! Thanks Farley.

This is the Beautiful Day stamp and die from Althenew again and next time I try this technique I will use a larger flower stamp. I like it but had to stamp each flower 3 different times , emboss and cut out.

Thanks for the challenge Farley.

Beki and Debi thanks for joining this challenge.

Beki that’s a LOT of fussy cutting you and Pam both did. Your cards are great and I like how you altered the orientation of them.

Debi, I know what you mean about all the stamping and cutting but well worth it. Your cards are gorgeous.

By the way, other images besides flowers can be used. I want to try one with butterflies.

Beki, thanks for explaining you fussy cut the flowers; I was trying to decide if they were stamped or layered or...? Only fitting that as Pam C gave you the idea she should give you the paper, too
Debbie, your Beautiful Day cards are lovely. Not sure if you've watched Jennifer McGuire do this, but she takes a square piece of paper that's big enough for 4 flowers, one in each corner. Then with each layer she stamps, turns the paper a quarter turn, stamps again, turns the paper, etc. When the first layout is stamped 4 times she positions the next layer and repeats the process. You do need a stamp positioner for this quick trick. It only takes a little longer to get 4 flowers finished, which for a technique like this is worthwhile trying.
