Second surgery coming soon for Mike

The bones in Mike's heel are still unhappy... apparently they're just not staying put and the movement is causing pain and swelling... and the arthritis is setting in quickly. So he's scheduled for December 2nd for surgery to clean things up and then fuse some of the bones together. He'll be non-weight-bearing for 6 to 8 weeks and lots of prayers and fingers being crossed, hopefully will heal and have a reduction in the pain.

For anyone who wasn't in here a couple years ago.. Mike was on the deck of this house and it collapsed... he basically landed on one of his feet and broke the bones in his heel.

Oh Debi and Mike I am so sorry you're having to go through this again. I have great sympathy for foot pain due to my own experiences. You have all my best healing thoughts for a great successful outcome. Staying off feet that long is not easy. I found office chairs on wheels very handy for scooting around in when tired of crutches.

I'm so sorry to hear this but it did seem inevitable, didn't it? Foot pain is the very worst. Prayers for a quick recovery - for both of you.

So sorry to hear this, will he have it done on the Outer Banks or in Raleigh? I have had 2 knee surgeries that laid me up and it's no fun for sure.

I was hoping that the last surgery had taken care of it. Foot issues are no fun. Thankfully he has a good nurse at home who'll take care of him, and Chevy will watch over him when you can't be there.

Farley.... someone invented the coolest couple of tools.... he couldn't use crutches the first time around because he had also dislocated his shoulder... but we initially borrowed one of these scooters


And then he bought one of these iWalk 2.0 devices for when he needed to be able to walk around for longer periods of time

His surgeon is up in the Norfolk, VA area.... so we'll spend the night at his mom's house and then go to the hospital at 6 in the morning... egads!!

Thankfully, it's outpatient surgery... so we'll be home that night

Good to hear he won’t have to be in the hospital overnight, that’s a good place to get sick! Sounds like a bad thing to say but it’s true.

He could have had this surgery back in February or March but he and the surgeon both opted to wait... Because of the Covid worry. Now isn't a whole lot better but I think it's really bugging him.
