family size tea bags?

I've embarked on a journal-making class, and one of the techniques uses tea bags. The instructor is in CA and appears to use family size tea bags which are 3 - 4 times the size of regular tea bags. I've never heard of them before; Canadians aren't into iced tea the way southerners are, and there's no such thing as family sized tea bags available. I looked on amazon - and can have a box shipped to me for about $40 or so; um, not happening. So I'm wondering here if that's a household staple for anyone, and if you could see your way clear to sending me a half dozen or so. I'd be happy to pay for the mailing costs.

If it's being used to stain, Keitha, just use regular and multiply accordingly. I'm a regular tea drinker, but the larger size tea bags I've only seen for doing pitchers of iced tea. I'll take a look next time I'm at Target or Walmart to see if they have any in stock. They may be a seasonal thing in my area.

I checked and our family size tea is in a round pouch, not a bag. George said they switched several years ago.

I do use regular tea bags to dye paper, but in this case wanted the actual tea bags to take apart and make art on. Obviously family-size tea bags/pouches are larger. I have seen people paint or whatever on the small bags, but I don't really work in miniature. If I ever get into the US again I'll check the grocery stores and see if I can find any.

How about the tea bag filters that come in a box without
tea?
If you have a gourmet coffee and tea shop near you
they probably carry them. We used them for loose
leaf tea take out at my daughter's coffee shop when
she owned it.She also had them for sale for her
customers that wanted to use them instead of metal infusers.

I might even have a box with a few left in it, I'll check and if you
want to try them, I could mail them if I still have any

Are other people in your class able to find them?

Pam, I think the majority of the class live in the US. A gal from Michigan said she found them at Walmart. It's just not something we have in Canada.

Out of curiosity, I had a look on our supermarket websites and they aren't sold here. It's surprising given the amount of tea drunk at social events. Regular teabags are much more common than they used to be when all tea was loose.

Sue, those look like the right size, yes. I do need to brew the tea in the bags though. However I don't need a lot of them.

Can you just brew a pot of tea and put the empty tea bags in to stain them? Flattened, empty bags would mail easier. Just a thought. But, I'll send whatever you need.
