6x6 Class - Week 7 LOs

Post by jfugina »

This layout isn't one of my favorites (next week - I promise I'm kind of proud of next week's!). I really wanted to use some of the "Hey Boy" papers I had, and of all of the photos I printed for this class, these photos of cousins at the Magic House children's museum were the only thing that even seemed to come close to making sense. But what I couldn't figure out were embellishments. I think I mentioned before, but I'm making a Michael's list and just need to go browse the sticker aisle and see if something strikes me. If not, maybe I can find a monkey image for the cricut and figure something out with that. So maybe I'll revisit this layout.. maybe not.

I did not like this sketch - definitely not one of my favorites.

I searched Pinterest and found this one, so I used what I had already cut and then added a few 6" banners at the top of the photo.

Since I still wasn't all that happy, I decided to just do whatever I wanted to do with the banners. There were still lots of leftovers from dismantling the original LO, so I used them. AND, I actually used the recommended photo sizes. I was much happier with this one and will add journaling on a "pull-up" tag on the back of the page. There's no way I could journal everything I want to on the front about Grandma Eddi. BTW, this is Bonnie's mom; she's like my 2nd mother and we all love her dearly.

Eddi has led a very interesting life. The portrait of her when she was 8 was taken by Sam Shere, who was a friend of her family. Mr. Shere is most famous for his iconic photo of the Hindenburg in flames.

I do like all these pages but I just don't like the design from Allison. It's not at all my style. I've looked at it so many times trying to think of a way to adapt it.

Julie, I use a lot of stars for my boy pages - circles and stars.

Pam - what a wonderful thing to know about that photo!

Pam P - I love both of those layouts! And I agree - I like them more than the sketch that was posted for this week. Especially the second one- it uses the banners, emphasized at the corners, and looks so much better (IMO) than the original sketch. As I tend to stick to sketches pretty to the letter, just because I'm not super skilled at adaptations.

Pam C - I think you're right about stars. That might be where I land on this, if I add anything to it at all. For next week's the focus is on Jake, and I just used some punched hearts. Good enough. :-)

Great layout Jill! Your colors really accent your crafting photos well!

Pam C - another great take on this sketch! I wish my brain could take a sketch I didn't really love and figure out how to alter it to get to what you did. It's stunning, and I wish I could train my brain on how to make that creative leap.

Pam P inspired me.

Julie, I look at a sketch and make note of what I see - banners top & bottom. I didn’t like them all line up so how can I still have some at the top and the bottom and still live with it? Three photos in the center of the page. Okay but I don’t really like the three photos I have so I’ll just make it work with two. Title placement? I prefer titles touching the photo(s) and I had room bottom left. She scattered stars top and bottom. The embellishments I used draws the eye top left to bottom right with the photos in the center. That’s sort of what I do each time.

Hm. Should have waited until today when she posted the tips and tricks... There are a few in there I like much, much better.

Love all these pages.
I'm enjoying this class but it is not my style so it takes me longer to do.

Interesting - I find them very easy to do - once I decide on the supplies and a version that looks good to my eye.

Everyone's doing a great job with them. I enjoyed watching Jill work on her pages at the beach (when she wasn't on the floor!).

Seriously Jill - how is your back holding up?
