I seriously tried to make this sketch work but ended up tossing it. To my eye it was just too busy for the photo and kept looking off balance. Tried other papers and it still didn't work. I guess I do have a "style" - plain and simple. I did use some of the strips I cut for the center, so not all of the paper was a total loss. As a former photographer (something else that's gone by the wayside thanks to eye issues), the picture has to tell the story. Macie was sooo excited about this recital and it shows in her eyes.

It’s beautiful Pam! The layout makes the photo stand out even more than it would on its own.

Honestly? I think there’s a good chance of that! Your pages are consistently very pretty and you do a great job choosing great colors and patterns. But I don’t think it’s all that easy to choose that many patterns that will work with all that movement. I thought about spending some time mixing papers and decided I just didn’t want to spend the time.

I love all of the interpretations for this week. And I read in last weeks thread about this week's frustrations. I stuck to the sketch pretty closely, but one of the things I've learned from this class (thought I don't recall seeing it explicitely stated), is that for these stripes and banner layouts, you really need to find papers with the tinyest patterns possible. Anything with a medium or large scale is just going to look off somehow.

So I found a pad that had super small scale prints to use for this layout, and I actually like it a lot. It took a lot of trial and error to get the papers lined up so that I didn't have the same patterns adjacent, but I finally made it work.
