Roadside Advertising
Roadside Advertising
I had to read this verse a couple times to get the pun: Angels who guard you/when you drive/usually retire/at sixty-five. The sixty-five refers to speed - which was quite fast back in the 30's. I really like the quasi-half and half design with photo-realistic paper on one side. I'll be doing that trick again.

Re: Roadside Advertising
It probably is an enlarged photo - just not mine! Actually, the paper (2006) is from Sandylion - Radiator Springs from Cars This is why I don't purge often.

Love the page.
I remember reading the Burma Shave
roadside signs whenever my mother
decided that we were going on a road trip.
Some of them were really funny

I immediately thought of the Burma Shave signs when I saw these photos. Guess we are dating ourselves, Elizabeth!
Love all the little details you do like the map rosette, Keitha!
Re: Roadside Advertising
I remember seeing some of these signs when we travelled along a stretch of Route 66 We really liked this one

Re: Roadside Advertising
Thanks ladies. I'm too young to remember the original Burma-Shave signs My research suggests there were thousands erected over the years; I read where farmers would touch them up with paint when needed, etc. You can find many of the verses through a Google search, some of them were really clever. Kathy, here's the sketch I started with (turned sideways) in case you're interested, but other than the photo placement I pretty much did my own thing.
