bought a mitre box..

Post by Ruth Ann Landry »

for myself yesterday. Now to learn to use it. I want to make frames for some of the canvases that I've been collaging and playing with so that I can do "something" with them. I think knowing how to use this thing and make my own frames would be a good thing to know...???????

just don't let wood working take over your creativeness!! You surely don't have time for both!

The best way to figure out the mitre box
would be to make your frame with paper strips
cut at the proper angles and then line up the strips
with the slots of the box, then put your wood trim
into the same position, even an experienced mitre box
user can get confused on what angel they want to cut
to complete the corner. My DS had to use my mitre box
last weekend to do some window trim and I caught him
twice starting in the wrong direction.

let me practice, Julie! Claudine makes her own, so I thought I should at least try...I bought lathe boards to make box frames for the stretched canvas I'm working on....

Another tip. Cut some scrap wood into pieces in the miter box so you can use them as a reference. Like ... I want this piece to be at this angle and this direction, so it needs to go this way. Joe and I did that for crown molding and it saved our relationship and our sanity!
