making a book using all your homemade paper tape :)

Post by ChristyB »

Tim Holtz showed this book a few days ago.
Many of us have made it in one form or another

1 sheet of paper and your new stash of homemade paper tape

(I know it says Valentine book, but this could be translated so many ways)

I've made that same book a bunch of times too, but I've always adhered the pages together. Taping the edges to make use of the pockets is pretty cool. And I did really love how neatly a gift card fit in there. :-)

I like the comment about Tim digging a ditch looking new and exciting. When I saw what it was I thought, we've been making them for years. His variation with the tape to make the pockets is clever. I don't really like the look of all that white tape along the edges. I'd like to see it colored more to match the rest of the pages. Has anyone colored their home made tape?
I don't remember what I used to color the tape I made and put on the tag for Deb's pif.

You can color the TH tapes with Distress inks.... or spray them with Glimmer Mists..... or alter them pretty much hwever you want. Simply rip off the pieces, attach them to a craft mat, and go for it! :) He did something like that for one of the Christmas tags, I believe.

I was meaning our home made tapes using the medical tape or document repair tape. I wasn't sure if they took color as well as Tim's tapes.

I only JUST got my tape last weekend when I ran into Walgreens for something else. I was amazed that I even remembered that it was on my list. So I haven't had a chance to try it out. But I'm with Marianne - I don't think I'd like the tape to stand out that much on the top and bottom. Inking or misting it would be the way to go for me. This will probably be the first little project I do, after the art doll, and after the calendar swap, and after..... well, maybe next winter.

Lanita - I don't remember how this came about, but someone mentioned that the Tim Holtz paper tape that's all the rage right now is very similar to the paper tape that you can get at a drug store. It's with the bandages. But the advantage of the drug store tape is that you can stamp it yourself and basically have an endless variety of paper tape at a way lesser cost.

I know some people have gotten some drug store tape and stamped on it, but I don't remember if anyone has tried inking it or doing anything to color it yet.
