I don't even know where to start on how I came up with this. I really did want to do something Steampunk-ish as I do like the style very much. But what most people do with a few gears and clock faces is not 'real' Steampunk so I didn't want to go that route. Anyway I would call this Victorian Industrial without the Fantasy.

While looking for old engravings or drawings of the 8 maids, I started thinking about DH's 2GGrandmother, who was a 'cowkeeper' in Carnaby St. London in 1860. After hours of fascinating research yesterday on the dairy business in Victorian London, my tag reflects that rather than the traditional 8 maids a milking.
Milk O! was the cry of the milk seller in the streets of London. I just thought the blue tint to everything and some Black Soot Distress Stickles captured the mood I wanted.

Absolutely, stunning! I love what you did and all the research that went in to it. Isn't it just amazing that one little search can get you lost for hours and hours.

It sure is which is why I love the Internet so much. I found the picture of the girl and then the book it came from. It also had the London skyline drawing. Then the wheels in my brain started turning and I found so much info. There were even lists of cowkeepers in London during the 18th century but not the 19th. Then I found a picture of one dairy on Regent St. that was close to the area where she was but it was too elegant. I even found the architectural history of the area since the 1600s with descriptions of the buildings. It is all fascinating.

It's so nice to have all of you who understand! I was practically doing the happy dance and told DH about all of it and he was not too impressed. Maybe he tuned out at the mention of Tim! Anyway, I saved a lot of the info I found to add to the genealogy program. She's one of the brick walls so any little info makes me happy.

Even though some of us were less than thrilled with Tim's tag today, there has been some great "outside the box" thinking! So I thought I'd have a go at it.
While looking for anything "steampunkish" I found these outline stickers of sailing boats with a ship's wheel, then a few metal starfish and shells. I remembered the carol "I saw three ships come sailing in" so thought I would do that. I used the sailing boat as a mask with pigment ink and clear embossing powder. Like Tim's tag, this one has no glitter, except for the stray particles that seem to get everywhere!
Kathryn.
