Liquid Frisket

Post by nancine »

on the CS forum someone was asking about liquid frisket - mostly used by watercolorist. It's great for masking so I thought I'd share my limited knowledge about it here.

If you DON'T have Tim's or Heidi Swapp etc. masks you could use Liquid Frisket in place of them. It would work great with CS stencils - just paint the frisket in the open areas, let dry and then go to work. It dries a yellowish color - and it comes in a bottle or a very cool one that has a tiny opening like a pen that you can write with or draw swirlys etc.

Once you're done adding inks, paints, stamps etc. you just rub the frisket off with your finger.

I'll try to make some tonight and post photos of how it works! I'm not sure how $$ it is, but you could get it at Michael's with your coupon ;)

Never heard of the stuff, but it sounds like a great alternative! I had planned on cutting some masks out of acrylic sheets with my sizzix dies, but hadn't figured out how to make them temporarily sticky (thinking TIO&O would rip paper up with it).

If it's at Michael's, is it with the scrap stuff, or in a different section?

Thanks for the tip!

I popped home while out doing work errands (it's convient to llive/shop/work in the same town) and got started on the Frisket. My MasquePen is full of booger-y stuff - that's what I get for letting it sit so long. I'll try to fix that later :x

anyway - here's a photo of what the stuff is - another name than Frisket too! and how I painted some on thru a stencil and it's sitting at home drying now.

Thanks Nancy - those photos are very helpful! So often I go to the store not having a clue whether I'm looking for a bottle, a tube, or a tub, and then there's what size. Thanks for letting us know what we're looking for!

I have use frisket to 'mask' particularly if I want to color something mask it and then go to town with watercolors or oil pastels. It completely protects the image.

Here's the rest of the "details". I hope you get some ideas from this. The masked part isn't quite as clean as with Tims masks (or Heidi Swapp makes some cool ones too) - but it adds a "grungy" effect
