The Lochridge Slides
Re: The Lochridge Slides
Rachelle, that's a great project. I like the idea of scanning X number per week. I should do that. Those old color slides have held up so much better than the early color photos and it's really worth doing. I'm glad he let you take the slides so you could scan them.
Marianne, FWIW, I have an Epson that scans both slides and 35mm film strips. It works very nicely. Older, but similar to the V500 or V600.

Thanks, Beth, I have been looking around at scanners and also at the scanning services online.
Rachelle, did you have to do a lot of cleaning of the slides before scanning or digitally after scanning? My slides are terribly dusty so the prep before scanning is going to be tedious.

Re: The Lochridge Slides
Luckily, I did not have to do any dusting or cleaning; they were all in the plastic slide holders that you actually put into the projector. I had to take them all out of those to get them into my suitcase for the airplane, so I just put them into boxes and I haven't found them to be in too bad a shape. I am cleaning some of them up in PSE that have scratches or colorfading.mpizzazz wrote:Thanks, Beth, I have been looking around at scanners and also at the scanning services online.

Re: The Lochridge Slides
You're really lucky. A lot of mine were in slide trays but some have been in slide boxes and they are so dusty. I am really only wanting the ones with people in them unless it is some place that no longer exists as it was.
Re: The Lochridge Slides
As I mentioned last week, my grandparents had a view of Mt. Rainier from their backyard and there are several slides featuring the mountain. So, since this weeks theme is a view, we're getting our first layout with Mt. Rainier.

Re: The Lochridge Slides
Wow, wow, wow! That is gorgeous!
Re: The Lochridge Slides
I cannot imagine growing up with that view in the back yard. Absolutely beautiful.
Re: The Lochridge Slides
What is it about mountains? "Majestic" just doesn't cover it, does it?
Please, please keep sharing these with us!

Oh I like these
Re: The Lochridge Slides
I ordered the V500 today. It still seems to get good reviews and for $140 and free shipping, I think I will get my money's worth. Then I can pass it on to someone else who needs to scan slides. While I was at the other house, I went through some trays of slides and with my own scanner I would do more of them than if I was paying .60+ a piece to have a service do it.bethrich wrote:

Thanks for the nudge, Rachelle, and Beth!
Re: The Lochridge Slides
Here is my layout for this week's chronicle theme (favorite room or place). Had to think outside the box for this one since it's not really about me, but I remembered my grandma saying "isn't this the best seat in the house" just about everytime I saw her. In my journaling I write that looking back I'm sure it was a ploy to get you on her lap for a good story, and she was a great cuddler.
The bottom layout is a bonus slide that I did for the scraplift challenge. You can read about it in that thread if you want the details.

Re: The Lochridge Slides
it's just great what you are doing with the slides Rachelle, and I bet you didn't need too much coaxing to sit on your Gramma's lap!
Re: The Lochridge Slides
What a beautiful memory you have recorded in the "Best Seat" layout.
