art journals & handmade journals
Per Pam's request, here is the place to post your links, ideas, and show'n tell for art journals and handmade journals. How do you do one? Stitch first? create signatures first? Ideas first? Store-bought altered journal?

And I should be working on PSL LOs, but this is more interesting.
I have some huge sheets of watercolor paper that I can make signatures out of, but someone else would have to bind them for me or show me what to do with them. I have no clue!

Re: art journals & handmade journals
Did you ever make any of those little books from CS?
Re: art journals & handmade journals
Pam, take those huge sheets of watercolor paper and fold them until you get a size you think is workable and not too intimidating for you. Cut them in either single page (2 sided) or folded pages (signature-4 sided). Watercolor paper is great because if you decide to get watery and messy, it will take it.
Worry about the binding later, we can help at ReCreate.

Watch the first two videos on Teesha Moore's page http://www.teeshaslandofodd.com/techniques/pages1.html and you will see how easily you can make a book out of a sheet or two of large watercolor paper...
Re: art journals & handmade journals
I make my own. Use either watercolor paper or cardstock which I gesso. Sew into a signature and when the signature is full sew into a book I am working on
Re: art journals & handmade journals
OK, but you'll have to show me how to sew because I don't! Either that or I'm going to have to invest in a Bind It All.
Re: art journals & handmade journals
I'm sure Christy's links will have some that show how to sew the binding. I googled it one time and found some very simple bookbinding techniques. The easier the better is my motto.

Re: art journals & handmade journals
The two art journal swaps I participated in have BIA holes in them. They haven't been bound, because I hope to add some more signatures before I bind, but that's how I'm doing it, ultimately. I've attempted to sew signatures, and even following the instructions and using the right kind of thread, I still somehow manage to get the thread to slice right through the fold. A book binding class is on my long term to-do list. But until then, the BIA is what I use.pbp908 wrote:OK, but you'll have to show me how to sew because I don't!
