Norway-Poland Journal

Post by mpizzazz »

From our trip in April/May. I used one of those naked chipboard accordion albums that we had to have years ago. They are about 8 x 8". I make 5 signatures with 3 sheets of wide paper for each one. I sewed the signatures into the book when I came home and covered the spines with black tape so the white thread wouldn't show on the outsides. It was easy to do and I like it for fairly short trip.
The papers in the book are from a calendar I had a few years ago illustrated by Lotta Jansdotter, a Norwegian artist.

This next page is particularly for Pat. The first restaurant where we had pierogi was in Gdansk. They were the best of the trip because they were freshly made while you waited. Ray had wild boar and I had chicken with tomato and herbs inside. The dough was so thin you could see through them. The waitresses wore tee shirts with the quote on them. And that bowl in foreground was the best sauerkraut ever! It is also freshly made and was not the soggy preserved kind we all know.

Trip to Folk Museum and gloves on display
Two of my favorite things of the trip were the train ride from Bergen to Oslo and the Norwegian folk museum in Oslo. There were over 400 pairs of mittens or gloves documenting the local patterns of Selbu.

Bottom right: Our ship was not the big red and white in the foreground but the little one behind it.

Marianne, this is wonderful. What a great way to remember your trip. Your pictures and journaling are terrific and I love that you used paper from a Norwegian artist -- how perfect!

Your journals are always wonderful and this one is outstanding! Love the papers you used and how you constructed it. And I love your mittens photo.

Another great journal Marianne! Brilliant use of that accordion album; I'd have never thought to sew signatures into it, but it works perfectly. Looks like some great experiences/memories from that trip.

Thanks for all your comments!

I was really pleased with how that accordion book worked out. It wouldn't take a lot of signatures between the pages because of the bulk closing it but 3 folded pages worked out fine. So if anyone has those naked chipboard books around, it makes a good album. And they could always be cut apart and hinged like a normal book.

Great looking journal Marianne. Those are always my favorite way to document trips. My France one is my all time favorite. I did a cloth journal for Germany and thinking about re-doing it, don’t like it a bit.

I think you're the Queen of Travel Journals (where is a tiara when I need one?). I saw most of the photos on Ray's blog but they're even more stunning on your journal pages.

Glad you saw it, Pat. I'm going to try and make them next Winter when it's cool and dry for making dough.
