Water Color Crayon Cards using Stencils

One of the things I threw into my mobile command center was my whole binder of stencils and my water color crayons, so the first challenge in the PSL summer camp was one I could participate in, at least when I wasn't off doing fun vacation activities.

Here are the cards I made the past week.

Various stencils used: Surf's Up, Into the Wild, Avant Garde, Refresh, Simply Beautiful, A Study in Red and Retro.

Those are absolutely beautiful. I admit I don't like using this technique. It never looks the way I want it to, but man have you got it down. I love the Hibiscus flower ones the best but they all ROCK

Thank you everyone! Some of the things I have learned while doing this technique are:

Too much water makes mud! Too little water and you don't get a good image.

I work on a craft sheet and spritz the stencil lightly with water--just enough to get the crayon melting as I go. I also go heavily over the stencil edges to concentrate the color. It's ok if a little color gets in the stencil opening, but if it's really wet inside the stencil I lift it off carefully and wipe up the excess water before doing my image.

Then I spritz lightly with water again and then make my image. Lay the paper over the stencil and burnish with your finger with medium pressure over the whole back. Lift off gently and let dry. I usually go over the stencil with the same colors again, spritz and get one more image, but then I clean it off and start fresh 'cause there's usually too much water on it by then.
