Christmas Ornaments new photo pg 2

Post by troublesmom »

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but I have been doing those ornaments with Tim's die but also cutting some of my own. Farley (CS) got me started on these and I love them. Should be cleaning but NOT......
These are without the hangers and not finished:

Those are fabulous!! I saw Farley's on FB but haven't had a chance to sit down and try my hand at them yet.

They are very easy. You really don't even need his die just cut your card stock (12 x 12) the width you want and score every 1/4 inch, fold and finish.

Those are really pretty! I've heard from a few people that scoring a cut yourself is actually less work than dealing with that die. More than one person has told me that those dies are a PITA. I'd rather spend time scoring myself than trying to clean up edges that didn't cut.

Funny you should mention that, Julie. Tim himself has suggested that one place tissue tape in the backside before cutting to help stabilize the cuts and keep them from tearing. My response: Umm, I bought the dies so I wouldn't have to do more than cut and fold! And if you are using a double-sided paper and expects the rosette to be seen from both sides, you wouldn't want it covered by tissue tape. Not that I can get the darn tissue tape to stick all that well.... (I'm really disappointed in his tissue tape. the stuff Michelle sent me from Japan is a dream and sticks perfectly but Tim's stuff kinda sucks in the stickiness department.)

I wish I had thought about it before I bought them yesterday. That is what you get for moving too fast.

Tim's tape is sort of sticky and the same for some of Martha Stewart line of chipboard items. Not very sticky

But Cheryl - yours look like the cuts turned out just fine! Did you have any trouble with your dies? The edges look nice and clean on your ornaments. The rosettes my friend showed me had one edge that was decorative, and it just came out shredded. So I wonder if it was just more of a problem on the fancy edged dies?

Something else that's crossing my mind right now, is that I have the "elegant edges" cartridge, and I'll bet if I could size the strip just right on my gypsy, I could make some rosettes with those fancy edges. Hmmm... something to try this week!!!!

Julie, you'll have to post your experiments with that!

Something I did hear as well is to use a thicker cardstock or pp.... the text-weight stuff will simply shred and tear... although the first time I used mine was with Tim's paper and they still tore at the perf. It's a trial and error sort of thing, I think. Maybe I'll try with some CS cardstock and see how it works with the really thick stuff.

They turned out really fantastic!
I haven't had much trouble with Tim's dies - thinner paper isn't the best though. Sometimes it's just as easy to score your own on your handy Martha Stewart scoring tool ;)
Check out the video http://www.jennifermcguireink.com/2011/ ... video.html Jennifer McGuire did making some BIG rosettes... I plan to make some for over my mantle for Christmas, goodness I'm sure I have plenty of Christmas patterned paper hoarded!

Cheryl - Those are really pretty.

I read a review on the Memory Box roseatte dies vs the TH, and the Memory Box was rated higher. Wish I could remember who reviewed the things - I'd post it.
